SkyTeam NewsFlash - October 2004

SkyTeam, the global airline alliance partnering Aeromxico, Air France, Alitalia, Continental, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM, Korean Air and Northwest, sets itself apart by offering an exclusive experience for all passengers. SkyTeam NewsFlash issued monthly, enables the alliance to keep key media fully up-to-date with its most recent developments. Please read on for this month's update of SkyTeam activities.

SkyTeam, Bringing the World to your Fingertips - Last month, SkyTeam partners introduced Downloadable Timetables to the skyteam.com website. The product was designed with the business traveler in mind as it provides a way to download and access flight information from any Palm or Pocket PC while traveling. The handheld application needed to access the service takes about as much memory as the average game and allows travelers to view over 650 destinations in 137, countries and access a complete listing of SkyTeam partners, hubs, flights and reservation numbers. Since the Palm and the Pocket PC are two of the most popular handheld resources, now virtually all SkyTeam passengers with handheld computers can view their travel schedules on the go. This use of modern technology is another example of how SkyTeam continues to leverage and offer services that make traveling easier and seamless for its passengers.

Driving Expansion - One of SkyTeam's newest members, Northwest Airlines, recently announced the addition of service to Guangzhou, China from its Tokyo hub beginning 31 October. Northwest Airlines now serves 15 destinations in the Asia/Pacific region and leads the U.S. airline industry in travel to cities in the area. With the addition of the Northwest flights, SkyTeam now offers more daily flights to the region. China is a strategic region for the alliance, as it is one of the fastest growing aviation markets and Guangzhou is one of the country's most affluent regions. In August, SkyTeam signed an agreement with China Southern, the largest carrier in the People's Republic of China, paving the way for the airline to join SkyTeam in the future. Northwest's new service is an example of SkyTeam members' commitment to expanding their route networks and providing more flights to better serve their passengers.

Traveling - As of 1 September, KLM and Delta announced a reciprocal interline electronic ticketing product. Electronic ticketing or E-ticketing allows passengers to check-in online from home or via kiosks in airport lobbies and helps to make travel more efficient. Over the next year, the remaining SkyTeam carriers will be working to streamline e-ticketing procedures and offer this service to all passengers in an effort to make travel as simple and convenient as possible.
