Planning

Climate

Summer runs from November to February and is particularly hot and humid toward the end of the season. Autumn and spring are pleasantly mild and sunny. Winter, from June to August, can be fairly cold (41-54°F/5-12°C), with bright, clear skies and occasional rain. Summer is high season, when most residents of Buenos Aires, known as porteños, leave the city. Winter is low season.

Voltage

220V AC, 50 Hz triple flat-pin plugs and the older twin round pins are standard.

Time

GMT -3 hours (-2 hours in the summer)

Money

The unit of currency in Argentina is the Argentine peso (AR$), which consists of 100 centavos. Upscale hotels, restaurants and shops sometimes accept US dollars. Note that the peso is always represented as $ and the US dollar as US$. All major currencies can be exchanged easily in the main tourist centers. Hotels, upscale restaurants and shops accept major credit cards.
