Best known for his judgments on the ever popular Strictly Come Dancing, Craig Revel Horwood returns to the West End as director in the new sultry sensation Flamenco Flamen'ka at the Lyric Theatre.
There's definitely something Spanish in the air - with swashbuckling Zorro The Musical over at the Garrick Theatre. Now those irrepressible flamenco rhythms infiltrate Shaftesbury Avenue with Flamenco Flamen'ka, transferring directly from a sell-out run in Paris. Based on a story and concept by Karen Ruimy, who also narrates the show, Revel Horwood directs and stages a company of 18 in the choreography by performers Jerome Couchart, Marjorie Ascione and Manuel Gutierrez Cabello.
Described as "a stampede of wildly passionate dance and music", Flamenco Flamen'ka tells the tale of a passionate love triangle. Jealousy, betrayal, hate and sacrifice have their part to play as the show climaxes in heartbreaking tragedy.
Switching from flamenco, tango and contemporary ballet, the musical accompaniment includes classical flamenco music as well as work by Bruno Ribera. Karen Ruimy is trained in Seville with Blanca and Adrian Ruiz and here is joined by a company of inspirational international flamenco and latin dancers.
Craig Revel Horwood, returning to the panel of judges for the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing on 20 September, has been a busy man this summer, having already directed Sunset Boulevard at Newbury's Watermill Theatre and published his autobiography All Balls and Glitter: My Life.
