The sound of pealing bells rings out across London, from Temple to Waterloo, for the five-hour National 12 Bell Striking Contest. Taking place at St Paul's Cathedral, the competition is the principal change ringing striking competition in the UK.
The secret is in the evenness of the striking - the more even it is, the more points are scored. Held annually since 1975, the competition is open to any tower where 12 bell ringing is practised regularly. The event at St Paul's is the final round - nine battle it out to win the Taylor Trophy.
