Queen and Ben Elton have collaborated to produce, at a cost of £7.5 million, We Will Rock You. It opened at London's Dominion Theatre in May 2002 and is still going strong, not only this original London production, but now in theatres in Sydney, Spain, Russia, Germany and Las Vegas.
Scale and spectacle are the order of the day, as you would expect from the band whose live performances made rock legend. Ben Elton's script sets the story in the future, on a place once called Earth. Globalisation is complete. Everyone watches the same movies, wears the same clothes, and thinks the same thoughts. All musical instruments are banned. But resistance is growing. A hero is needed. Is the one who calls himself Galileo that man, and can he help them break free...?
The show is directed by Christopher Renshaw and choreographed by Arlene Phillips. Production design is by Mark Fisher and Willie Williams and the costume designer is Tim Goodchild.
