Around 50,000 participants of all ages, physical abilities and origins take part in Stramilano, Milan's popular international half marathon. It starts in Piazza Castello and ends at the Civic Arena, ringing the inner city in a circular route.
First run in 1972, the 21km Stramilano is made up of various categories for professional athletes but alongside the main race are the 12km "Stramilano 50,000", allowing athletes from all walks of life to run at their own pace, and "Stramilanina", a 6km run for children.
