Tipping
In restaurants, tip 10% on top of any cover charge. Tipping in bars is not
expected.
VAT & Taxes
Prices in shops include the government's 22% value-added tax (VAT).
Getting Around
Buy tickets or passes in advance at stations, newsstands, cafes and tobacconists
(look for the “T” sign). Tickets are good for up to 75 minutes on any combination of
subway, tram and bus.
Taxis
Taxis are white. They line up at train stations and taxi stands and may be hailed
on the street. The 24-hour Radiotaxi service allows passengers to book by phone.
Dial the digits corresponding to “taxi subito.”
Subway
Milan's subway (Metropolitana) serves the city and the suburbs and has
three lines: red (M1), green (M2) and yellow (M3). At some subway stations,
riders can transfer to the train or to the bus to Malpensa and Linate
airports.
Trams & Buses
Tram, bus and filobus (electric buses) routes serve areas not accessible by
subway.
