Santiago's famous Teatro Municipal stages a full season of concerts given by the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra under music director Jan Latham Koenig. Visiting artists also perform at special events. The annual season runs from March to early December. More

On 16 July Chileans gather at the Maipú National Sanctuary, 20km outside Santiago, to honour the patron saint and protectress of the nation and the armed forces. Citizens show their allegiance with folkloric processions and dancing in the surrounding streets. More

Handel's baroque opera, Alcina, makes its debut at Santiago de Chile Municipal Theatre. Italian director Federico Maria Sardelli directs Carmen Giannatasio as Alcina on 17, 23, 26 and 28 July and Eduardo Browne directs on 22, 24 and 27 July. More
