Santiago de Chile

Overview

Chile’s capital is a major center of Latin American business and a cultural focal point. The Andes provide a majestic backdrop to the capital’s modern apartment blocks, colonial churches and 19th-century buildings. The country’s legacy of dictatorship fades as Santiago grows financially and its restaurant and nightlife scene takes an adventurous turn. Santiago is a jumping-off point for trips to nearby wineries, beaches and ski resorts. Chile’s major exports are copper and fruit.
