Getting Around
A DayTripper ticket, good for unlimited use of Sydney's ferries, trains and
buses, can save you money.
Taxis
Taxis are easy to find in Sydney. Hail one in the street or pick one up at an
official taxi stand at Circular Quay, Wynard Station and Town Hall Station.
Alternatively, call ahead for a taxi.
Metro Monorail and Light Rail
A monorail circuit loops between Sydney's Central Business District
(CBD) and Darling Harbour. The service runs frequently, and the entire route
takes only 15 minutes. Buy tickets at stations in advance. Sydney's
newest transport system, Metro Light Rail, operates 24 hours a day between
Lilyfield in the west and Chinatown in the east, passing through Glebe, Jubilee
Park, Pyrmont and Haymarket. Buy tickets from conductors on board. Day passes
are available.
Ferries
Both locals and tourists use the Sydney ferry system. All routes depart from
Circular Quay; they extend as far as Parramata in the west and (by high-speed
JetCat) Manly in the east. Prices vary according to number of zones traveled.
Buy tickets from machines at Circular Quay and Manly.
Buses and Trains
Sydney's buses and trains are useful for visiting the suburbs. The main
bus terminals are Wynard Park (if you're heading north) and City Quay
(for buses going south, west or east). Bus tickets are for sale on board or at
terminals in advance. Most City Rail train routes circle the CBD before heading
to the northern, western and southern suburbs. Airport Link service runs
directly to the center of the city. Train tickets are available 24 hours a day
from machines at the stations.
