In mid-January, SkyTeam representatives accepted the award for "2005 Best Airline Alliance" from Global Traveler magazine. Selected by the magazine’s readers in an annual survey, Global Traveler cited the alliance’s growth in terms of member airlines and route network over the past year as a key factor for receiving the recognition. SkyTeam's Governing Board and other executives celebrate the alliance's 5^th anniversary following a meeting in Amsterdam on June 9. At a press briefing held in conjunction with the meeting, the executives announced the finalization of the SkyTeam Associate Program and named the first carriers selected to begin the joining process: Air Europa of Spain; Copa Airlines of Panama; Kenya Airways of Kenya; and TAROM of Romania.

The SkyTeam Tulip is formally registered and will be traded under this name worldwide.
