SkyTeam Expands SkyCare&Protect Pledge with New Digital, Health and Safety Measures

End-to-end technology solutions to provide customers with confidence in air travel, from knowing which COVID test to take and where, to travel regulations and contactless boarding

AMSTERDAM, 27 April 2021 - SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, has boosted its SkyCare&Protect pledge with digital solutions and further health and safety measures to restore customer confidence in air travel. With rapidly changing regulations, the alliance’s member airlines are equipping customers with all the information they need – including the latest travel restrictions and how and where to book pre-travel COVID tests – so they comply before they fly.

SkyTeam airlines’ commitment to rigorous health and hygiene has been strengthened by technology and increased from 15 to 22 measures including: online travel requirement checker; Testing Labs Locator sites; contactless boarding; pre-trip communications; and more. And, so customers are fully informed as they return to flying, the alliance has launched a new SkyCare&Protect video that explains the travel journey from start to finish.

“Providing real-time digitized information and expanding health safety measures through SkyCare&Protect is another way SkyTeam airlines are making travel safer and more seamless,” says Walter Cho, Chairman of the SkyTeam Alliance. “Customers can trust us to provide all the information they need, including how to find and book the right COVID test, while being reassured that aligned safety protocols are in place across their travel experience.”

“Customers can travel safely and with peace of mind, thanks to our rigorous health and hygiene measures combined with innovative technology that provides all the information they need before they fly,” said Ed Bastian, CEO, Delta Air Lines. “Customers can connect across our partner airlines knowing that SkyCare&Protect is delivering the highest standards of personal health safety and wellbeing – just as they expect from Delta.”

SkyTeam CEO, Kristin Colvile, said, “Numerous studies have proved the safety of flying during the pandemic and SkyTeam continues to find more ways to make it even safer. As air travel recovers, the enhanced SkyCare&Protect measures in place across our members create a trusted network for the millions of passengers we look forward to welcoming back on board.”

New SkyCare&Protect measures include:

  • Testing Labs Locator on member airlines’ websites or on SkyTeam.com available in 16 languages to help customers find and book the right COVID-19 test with trusted providers in over 18,600 locations worldwide.

  • Partner airline COVID-19 policy details available via mini-site or dedicated section, quickly giving customers a clear idea of what their journey will look like when flying on codeshare services or connecting between carriers.

  • Access to a travel requirement checker on all 19 member airlines’ websites and SkyTeam.com.

  • Pre-trip messaging including operating carrier’s COVID-19 policies and reminders of current travel requirements for their destination.

  • Contactless boarding, to enable customers to self-scan their boarding passes at members’ hubs, where operations permit, for safer flying.

  • Revised boarding procedures to minimize contact between customers in gate areas and jet bridges and when boarding remotely by bus.

  • Enhanced onboard communication to remind customers of COVID-secure measures in-flight, such as mandatory face coverings, required etiquette and disembarking procedures, that crews enforce.

SkyTeam launched SkyCare&Protect in June 2020. This series of safety and hygiene measures across all 19 members cares for customers and employees across its global network. In addition to the new digital enhancements, health and hygiene protocols include: intense aircraft sanitizing; mandatory mask wearing; frequent access to hand sanitizer stations at hubs; safe distancing; onboard service adjustments and more.
