SkyTeam NewsFlash Special Edition - ITB Berlin March 2010

SkyTeam is a global airline alliance partnering nine members – Aeroflot, Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta, KLM and Korean Air – and two Associate carriers – Air Europa and Kenya Airways. The SkyTeam NewsFlash provides media with key updates and insights on alliance activities. This special edition focuses on the ITB Berlin, held from 10-14 March 2010.

For the second year, SkyTeam will be prominently present at the ITB Berlin. The ITB is the largest travel trade show in the world and attracts exhibitors, professionals, visitors and media from all sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. SkyTeam’s Managing Director, Marie-Joseph Malé, will be present at the SkyTeam stand at the ITB on Wednesday 10 March, where he will mark SkyTeam’s 10-year anniversary and elaborate on the alliance’s history and achievements of the past ten years as well as ambitions for the future. Furthermore, SkyTeam is a premium sponsor of the ITB Aviation Day on 12 March, where executives will address key issues in the global aviation industry.

Germany is Key Market for SkyTeam

SkyTeam is pleased to be present at the ITB. All partners are represented in Germany, and seven current SkyTeam airlines offer direct flights to/from this country. “This is a key market for SkyTeam and the alliance members are fully committed to providing German customers an excellent global network with a wide variety of options”, states Mr. Malé. For customers it is equally convenient to reach worldwide destinations from 11 international German airports with transfers at SkyTeam hubs, as it is via major German hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. SkyTeam has a strong presence at Berlin Tegel airport with six members offering regular flights from this city, some with up to five daily frequencies. Mr. Malé adds: “We are excited to be moving to a co-location at the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport in 2011, making travel more convenient for customers. At the moment we are also looking at co-locating at Frankfurt Airport, which is served by nine of our current and future members.” Vietnam Airlines and Tarom from Romania will join SkyTeam in June 2010. Representatives from all member airlines will be present at the SkyTeam stand during the five days of the ITB Berlin. Mr. Malé will visit the SkyTeam stand, located in Hall 9, on Wednesday 10 March from 3.00 to 4.00 p.m.

ITB Aviation Day

SkyTeam is a premium sponsor of the ITB Aviation Day on Friday 12 March. Executives and aviation industry experts will elaborate on developments in the aviation industry. A decade of alliance expansion has challenged regulators with a shift in the way partnerships among airlines have evolved. Multilateral joint ventures are the new entry on boardroom agendas. Can deeper integration provide relief? SkyTeam – the alliance most at the forefront in this collaborative model – shares its view on what will happen next. Mauro Oretti, Vice President Sales and Marketing, will provide a SkyTeam perspective on the role of global alliances in fostering deeper integration among the world’s airlines: ‘Breeding Ground for Consolidation. Time: 12.15 – 12.45. Location: Hall 7.1 b, auditorium London.
